JOHOR BARU: An automated clearance system, initially introduced for investors coming into Iskandar Malaysia, is now open to all residents from Singapore.
Singaporeans travelling frequently between both countries can apply for the Malaysian Automated Checkpoint System (MACS) introduced five months ago, said Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam.
The sticker costs RM30 yearly.
He said the authorities were confident this move would ease congestion at both the entry points at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex at Bukit Chagar and the Second Link.
With the system, Mahmood said it would take less than three seconds to go through immigration checks.
“It is simple. A sticker will be attached to the passport which will contain all the information needed to clear the checkpoint.
“The user just has to touch his passport onto a scanner before placing his thumb onto a reader to pass through,” he said.
