The property market here, like in other parts of the country, is regaining momentum after experiencing a slowdown almost a year ago following the global economic recession.
According to Dynasty View Sdn Bhd general manager Wong Kuen Kong, demand for residential property in Johor Baru has improved in the second half year and “with the signs of a global economic recovery, we can expect a better year ahead.”
Wong was speaking to StarBiz at the launch of 58 double-storey Deanna III terrace houses at Taman Seri Austin near here by the Johor Baru City Council corporate and public relations director Abd Rahman Abdullah.
JOHOR BARU: Property developers in Johor can look forward to better days ahead after almost a year of slow sales due to to the economic recession, as the sector is beginning to see early signs of recovery in the state, said Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (Rehda) Johor branch chairman Lee Kim Chai.
“Our members reported slightly better sales in the second and the third quarters of the year and expect the momentum to continue until this last quarter,” he told StarBiz recently.
“Iskandar Malaysia, which is already in its third year, will be the main driving factor that will help push up demand for properties in south Johor,” he said.

JOHOR BAHARU, Oct 19 (Bernama)-- Nearly 80 yachts and sailboats from 16 countries are gathered at the RM65 million Marina at the Danga bay here for the "Discover Malaysia by Sea" programme.
The three-day programme, which starts from Oct 30 and is aimed at promoting Malaysia to the boating and sailing community, will see participation from as far Antigua and Vanuatu to Canada and the United Kingdom.

THE Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) is focusing on road transport development, especially bus services, which forms part of the 32 development blueprints of the southern growth corridor.
Its chief executive officer Harun Johari said road transport was an important component of the integrated public transport master plan which covered air, rail and sea transport.
He said the bus service master plan would be ready by the end of the year.
"We will have buses of international standing as well as more bus routes and services.
"This is to live up to the expectation of a metropolis.
"Currently, our bus service is not quite adequate and this is one area we are focusing on."
KUALA LUMPUR: Shareholders of United Malayan Land Bhd (UM Land), at its EGM, have approved the purchase of 629.25 acres in Bandar Pulai Jaya, Johor, for RM233mil cash.
As per earlier reports, the company said in a statement yesterday that the land would be for a proposed mixed development.
It will comprise industrial and technology parks, commercial, logistics and transportation hubs as well as supporting residential components.
Shareholders also approved UM Land’s proposal to jointly develop the land with Tradewinds Johor Sdn Bhd (via a 51:41 joint-venture company, Extreme Consolidated Sdn Bhd, held by UM Land and Tradewinds respectively).
PROPERTY developer United Malayan Land Bhd (UMLand) (4561)has teamed up with Tradewinds Johor Sdn Bhd to jointly develop a RM718 million mix-used development in Bandar Pulai Jaya, Johor.
Under the deal, UMLand will hold a 51 per cent stake in the joint-venture company called Extreme Consolidated Sdn Bhd, while Tradewinds Johor will take the rest.
UMLand yesterday received shareholders' nod to buy the 254.5ha land for RM233 million cash.
The proposed mix development will feature industrial and technology parks, commercial, logistics and transportation hubs and supporting residential components. It is estimated to take five years to complete.
This planned development is expected to generate profits of about RM262 million over a period of five years.
