JOHOR BAHRU: Daerah ini dan Nusajaya dijangka dihubungkan dengan kemudahan pengangkutan transit aliran ringan (LRT) menjelang tujuh hingga 10 tahun akan datang.
Pengarah Projek UEM Land Holdings Bhd (UEM Land), Zulkifli Tahmali, berkata pelan induk projek berkenaan bakal disiapkan sepanuhnya selepas laluan dikenal pasti.
“Perancangan laluan LRT akan dipastikan kemudian dengan mengutamakan tempat menarik dan ingin dikunjungi orang ramai.
“Apa yang penting penyediaan kemudahan pengangkutan berkenaan buat kali pertama di negeri ini, akan memberi manfaat kepada semua pihak,” katanya selepas melancarkan Minggu Kempen Jaminan Kualiti, Keselamatan Pekerja, Kesihatan dan Alam Sekitar anjuran UEM Land di sini, semalam.
Iskandar Malaysia has attracted RM2.64 billion, or some S$1.1 billion, in manufacturing investments from Singapore's private sector since 2006.
National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan said that this sum comes from the 178 manufacturing projects with Singapore participation which have been approved by Malaysia from 2006, when the Johor economic zone was first launched, till May this year.
'Singapore is among the top three investors in Iskandar Malaysia,' said Mr Mah, in a written response to MP Ho Geok Choo's question in Parliament on local investments in the project and issues discussed at the 5th meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee (JMC) for Iskandar Malaysia (IM) on Nov 4.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia's message of reforms and transformation needs to be told to foreign investors consistently or risk being overshadowed by countries like China and other emerging economies.
The Malaysian Prime Minister also said Malaysia may need to introduce further measures to make its capital market more attractive to foreign fund managers if it does not want to be marginalised by them.
Following a series of meetings with American fund managers and investors as well as corporate figures here on Monday, Najib said: "I think they like the Malaysian story, but they want us to continue our reform measures because they say that the outcome is very important."

SINGAPORE: Iskandar Investment, the Malaysian company set up to develop projects in the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) in Johor, said on Thursday that the global financial crisis has not hampered the project.
But it admitted that the crisis has caused them to revisit their initial strategies and change their focus on potential investors.
Giving an update on the massive project, CEO of Iskandar Investment, Arlida Ariff, said the impact has been more on the strategy and marketing focus of the company, rather than the actual construction projects, which she said are on schedule.

SINGAPORE: The Malaysian Government is reaching out to Malaysians abroad to help promote the country.
“The new dimension in our consideration now is that we do not look at Malaysians abroad as having lost them for good. I think they want Malaysians to reach out to them,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“Let’s make the connection and benefit from them. We want to reach out to all of you and you help us,” he said, adding that they could help promote Malaysian interests while doing their own jobs in their respective countries.
Najib was speaking to more than 100 people, mainly Malaysians living or working in Singapore at a dinner hosted by him and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor on the sidelines of the Apec Summit here on Friday.
Two American companies are expected to make substantial investments in the local beverage and gas sectors soon.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said petroleum firm Exxon Mobil Corpora-tion had expressed its intention to venture into high CO2 content gas extraction while beverage giant Coca-Cola wanted to build a new modern plant in Malaysia.
“For Exxon, this will require additional investment as it is a new form of technology.
“They will need to build new turbines if they plan to use them to generate electricity,” he said, adding that the project would be located in Kimanis, Sabah.
As for Coca-Cola, he said the new bottling plant would be using advanced technology.
During the same period, they had invested RM19 billion in various projects, including in production of electronic goods and components manufacturing, in Malaysia.
Stressing that he was working hard to woo Singaporean entrepreneurs to invest in Malaysia, Mustapa said that just like Singaporean investors formed the top foreign visitors to Malaysia, "I want investors from the neighbouring country to become major investors in Malaysia."
The Minister said Singaporean investors were keen to make fresh investments in the health sector and development of industrial parks and logistics.
To attract more Singaporean investors, Mustapa said the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) will organise two Singapore-to-Malaysia trade missions next month.
